"A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him saying, 'You are mad, you are not like us'." --- St Antony of Egypt

Moose dies after fall from helicopter

by Scott Gilbreath ~ October 3rd, 2008

On Thursday, officials from the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources airlifted a moose near the town of Pictou, but the moose died before it could be placed in a trailer. The department originally gave the probable cause of death as a combination of drugs and stress.

It turns out they neglected to mention something else.

[A] spokesman for the department admitted the net that held the moose came loose from the cable as the helicopter took off.

“When the moose was first put into a sling for transport, it fell approximately 12 or 15 feet when being lifted by the helicopter,” said Dan Davis.

“We wanted to let people know that,” he said. “We don’t know at this point, but it may have contributed to its death.”

An animal probably weighing over a ton falls 12 or 15 feet from a helicopter. Yeah, I’d say that may have something to do with the animal’s death.

UPDATE (6 Oct.): It’s official: The fall caused the moose’s death.
