Levi Stubbs, R.I.P.
One of Motown’s great soul singers, Levi Stubbs, lead singer of the Four Tops, has passed away at his home in Detroit. He was 72.
Among the group’s many hits were “Baby I Need Your Loving”, “Standing in the Shadows of Love”, “Bernadette”, and “I Can’t Help Myself”. In this 1966 clip, they sing one of their biggest: “Reach Out (I’ll Be There)”.

The Four Tops—Levi Stubbs, Abdul “Duke” Fakir, Renaldo “Obie” Benson, and Lawrence Payton—performed together for 43 years. They were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
