Take our word for it: Waiting times are shorter
by Scott Gilbreath ~ November 16th, 2008
The Nova Scotia government is trumpeting its success in reducing waiting times for medical procedures. The only trouble is the province has no data to substantiate its claim.
The MacDonald government says it is reducing wait times but is a long way from proving it.
“There is no operating room (information) system, there is no electronic patient record,” Health Minister Chris d’Entremont said Friday. “There’s no way for us to collect data in a true fashion.”
“There is no electronic patient record”?! Are you serious?
Nevertheless, the health minister has the utmost confident in his information sources.
That blunt assessment came two days after the Health Department issued a news release titled “Wait time strategies paying off” and a day after the minister stood at Province House to brag about the government’s success in cutting wait times for long-term care and orthopedic surgery.
“It’s built on exit surveys; it’s built on hearsay, in some cases, from certain physicians and those things,” he said.
Hearsay? Well, I’m convinced.
