A tree falls in Falmouth
The Maritimes were hit hard by a wind storm yesterday afternoon and evening. Wind howled and lashed rain against our house for hours into the night. Late in the evening, we noticed a tree that formerly stood next to our property line had blown right over.
Here is the scene this morning.
This photo of the same scene was taken on 9 September when we moved into the house.
Our power flickered twice while I was trying to blog yesterday afternoon; then, around 4:30 pm, the lights went out for about an hour.
The wind also brought very warm temperatures, almost breaking record highs recorded in 2006. Yesterday’s high in Halifax was 16°C.

Yesterday in the See of Pisiquid my digital thermometer saw the temp rise to 19.8 C. with a dew point of 17, up four degrees from over night. The day before the temp was slightly higher than that. I mowed the lawn in a t-shirt on Friday… But alas the cold front went through mid afternoon taking down your unheathy red spruce as well as a huge lilac branch in my back yard. But the snows will be coming…
I must say the tree did not look very healthy on September 9, no wonder it got clobbered.
Very true, terrence. We had four or five trees chopped down and hauled away because they were dead. The tree that fell yesterday was left standing because it was a good distance from our house and leaning away from it.
