"A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him saying, 'You are mad, you are not like us'." --- St Antony of Egypt

Sunday Hymn: “Hark the glad sound!”

by Scott Gilbreath ~ December 7th, 2008

This morning’s processional hymn on the Second Sunday in Advent at Christ Church, Windsor. Hymn #65 in The Book of Common Praise (1938), official hymn book for the whole of The Church of England in Canada (later Anglican Church of Canada).

Hark! the glad sound! the Saviour comes,
The Saviour promised long:
Let every heart prepare a throne,
And every voice a song.

He comes the prisoners to release
In Satan’s bondage held;
The gates of brass before him burst,
The iron fetters yield.

He comes, the broken heart to bind,
The bleeding soul to cure;
And with the treasures of his grace
To enrich the humble poor.

Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace,
Thy welcome shall proclaim;
And heaven’s eternal arches ring
With thy beloved Name.

Words: Philip Doddridge, 1735
Music: St Stephen
