"A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him saying, 'You are mad, you are not like us'." --- St Antony of Egypt

Court frees Nigerian Christian jailed for blasphemy

by Scott Gilbreath ~ February 15th, 2009

Sharia states in NigeriaIn October 2007, a Sharia court in Kano, Nigeria, sentenced Sani Kibili to three years imprisonment for blasphemy against Islam. The case was manifestly unjust because Mr Kibili is a Christian and should not have been brought before a Sharia court in the first place.

Open Doors UK has released a statement with the welcome news that he has finally been freed.

Kibili, a father of six children was arrested after three Muslim men in his home town called him an infidel and accused him of blasphemy against Islam and its prophet.

“Following his arrest Sani was taken to the Shariah court, and after a brief trial, the judge sentenced him to three years in prison without the right to appeal,” the statement said.

It noted that Sani’s case was riddled with irregularities and his lawyer made it clear from the start that his imprisonment was illegal.

Mr Kibili’s lawyer says he discovered indications of a conspiracy in the original trial and that his client was ordered freed due to lack of evidence against him.

Kano is one of twelve Muslim-majority states in northern Nigeria that have implemented Sharia law.

I know a guy who was jailed in Nigera for a year, for his faith.

He came to N. America, finished his doctorate, and has gone back.

Into politics, no less. God grant him safe journey.

    Thanks for maintaining this site.
