Racial slur found at Calgary Multicultural Centre
Anoush Newman, executive director of the Calgary Multicultural Centre, was the apparent target of a racist insult left at her workplace last week. The words “Assasian Pig” were written in red lipstick on her office window.
Someone hasn’t got the multicultural message yet.
Newman, who is half Assyrian and half Armenian, said the message may not mean much to anyone else, but she believes it’s directed at her because of her active role in the Calgary Armenian community.

Newman believes the message on the window is someone’s attempt to use intimidation to deter her from continuing in her work with the Armenian-Canadian Cultural Association and its upcoming April 24 memorial in Calgary.
She reported the slur to Calgary police, but they don’t seem to be taking it very seriously.
Ms Newman ran unsuccessfully as a Liberal candidate in the 2008 federal election.
