Rape victim converts to Islam to marry accused

A woman has told a court in New Delhi, India, that she wants to marry the man accused of raping her in 2005 and has converted to Islam to make that possible. She has been ostracised and harassed since the rape and believes that marrying her rapist will put an end to her distress.
A rape victim has told a city court that she wants to marry her violator. Almost four years after Sheila was allegedly raped by Ali (both names changed), she has converted to Islam and is ready to accept him as her husband.

Sheila, who had earlier identified the accused and deposed against him in court, pleaded that after registration of the case in 2005, people in her locality were constantly maligning the image of her family. “The rape case has made my life hell and jeopardised my future prospects of leading a happy married life. I want to marry Ali, as our marriage would end my ordeal,” Sheila told the court.She even requested the court to release the accused on bail, so he could marry her.
The court agreed with the prosecution that bail was inappropriate in a case involving such a violent crime.
An advocate for rape victims said that Ali’s mother had pressured Sheila into agreeing to marry in hopes of getting her son out of jail.

The news dated 27th March 2009 informs about a Hindu woman who has converted to Islam to marry her Muslim rapist accused. This has been informed in a Delhi court.
Surprisingly this newsitem is not sync in line of views of our media and secularists that Muslims in India are unsafe and are tormented by Hindus.
This case underlines the need of speedy trial of rape cases and while one has sympathetic views for the victim, this should not open a way to force some unwilling girl into marriage by faorcing rape. The girl needs to know that by marrying her rapist she will only allow him to escape and maybe repeat the heinous act on some other girl. His muslim status allows him to marry four times and divorce her as per his wish.
The secularists should also know that Hindu or Muslims, everyone faces law and order problem. It is wrong to paint Hindus as perpetual tormentors and Muslims as perpetual victims, as the case shows.
