The “L” doesn’t stand for Liberal
by Scott Gilbreath ~ April 9th, 2009
Nova Scotia NDP candidate Lenore Zann appeared topless on the television show The L Word and the NDP is shocked—shocked!—that someone from the Liberal Party circulated a photo. I have a tip for Ms Zahn: If you don’t want topless photos of yourself intruding on your election campaign, don’t go in front of a camera with your breasts exposed.
Needless to say, the Liberals are falling over themselves apologising.
Nova Scotia’s Liberal leader is apologizing to actress and NDP candidate Lenore Zann after a campaign worker circulated a photo of her with her top off.
Stephen McNeil said it was a mistake to send out the photo, and he hopes to tell that to Zann in person.
“I would say to her, I apologize to her on behalf of the party in Nova Scotia for the way she’s been treated and the way this information was put out,” McNeil told reporters Thursday in Halifax.
“It was not authorized by me, it is not endorsed by me and it will not be tolerated by me as leader of this party.”
That is away over the top. I agree that leaking the photo was underhanded, but Ms Zann’s on-screen nudity is a matter of public record.

Did you say she’s an actress? In a members only club? Surely while being filmed she understood the show would be seen…
Kind of reminds me of some previous NDP candidates. Not everyone has a life that can bear scrutiny such as a politician has to put up with.
Its not a bad thing that the public gets an idea what political hacks will do out of love of the (Liberal) ‘party’.
I’m kind of torn between gut bursting laughter at the ridiculousness of it, and sympathy for her, in light of her public ‘exposure’.

Did anyone listen to the Paul Withers report on the CBC news where this all started!
a commenter on CBC’s web page says it best—
“I’ve done a little research and have come to the conclusion that it must have been an attempt to play to the perceived narrow mindedness of “a community where the mayor had refused to fly a gay pride flag.” By associating her with the “lesbian” aspect of the topless performance, and not the topless performance itself, because there are lots of images of her in a heterosexual environment that are more graphic.
Franky, it only proves to me that she is committed to doing her very best, when she sets her mind to a task. A refreshing attribute to any political aspiration. Obviously she has nothing to hide, which is more than I can say for Liberal Leader Stephen McNeil … “But I made it very clear — and very clear — that this will not be tolerated by me as leader of this party,” however … the volunteer who sent out the photo will continue on with the campaign. Now that’s as clear as any politician can be on this matter.”

Lenore Zann called the leaked photo a “smear” campaign. The photo is not a fake, so, however sneaky its release may have been, it’s not a “smear”. It’s accurate.
Ms Zann wishes the photo had remained hidden from the people of Truro-Bible Hill. The NDP is afraid that the community is indeed as narrow-minded as it’s “perceived”.
