Defending Carrie Prejean
Royal Hamel of the Guelph Mercury’s Community Editorial Board says, “Bravo to the brave Miss California”:
The United States is embattled in an escalating culture war on the issue of same-sex marriage. If the battle plays out as it did in Canada, many Christians and many churches will run for cover instead of speaking clearly what the Bible has taught for 2,000 years. But like a voice crying in the wilderness, a little-known beauty queen from California has stunned both Christians and non-Christians by her brave stand for traditional marriage.
Mr Hamel believes that Perez Hilton targeted Carrie Prejean for “outing” because she had attended a Christian school.
Who can doubt that the question by Hilton was deliberately chosen to expose Prejean’s beliefs?
Knowing she was from a Christian college, he undeniably had a clear idea what she believed. He knew that she couldn’t falsify an answer and still be true to her convictions. Hilton’s question was designed to out Prejean as a Christian who believed in traditional marriage.
Who knew that a time would come when Christians would need to be “outed”? In any case, his question hit the mark.

This outright attack and bullying of a public figure because of their religious beliefs is more than a little troubling. To put this in perspective, Prejean simply stood up for basic Christian teaching on marriage (Jesus clearly defines marriage in Matthew 19 as involving male and female).Doesn’t it seem somewhat presumptuous to accuse Jesus of discrimination and hatred? Shouldn’t God get to establish the basic ground rules of the institutions He created?
Amen to that.
Further to this, see today’s column by Amanda Platell in Britain’s Daily Mail: “Insults that betray the bigotry of gay zealots”.
UPDATE: Proving the point, a bigot has left a comment slagging me and “Carrie Prejea” [sic].

IT is so much fun to sit back and watch as the religious right wing(nuts).scramble to save their sick asses. Carrie Prejea is a waste of air as is Scott Gilbreath . Religious hate is loosing the battle to truth and love. Here in Canada Gays can marry and it has not affected my marriage one bit. I go to church every sunday and share the seats with loving christian gay families. I would rather be surrounded by gay christians than have to deal with one right wing hate filled nut.
oh and by the way, Jesus never once ever ever ever talks about gays. I don’t know where you are getting your lies but at least get it right.
Jesus never mentioned paedophiles, but that doesn’t make their activities OK either.

DC,
The only hate in evidence here appears to be coming from you.
Canadians have been beaten into submission by years of liberal “politically correct” clubbing. We’re at the point were there isn’t a single Canadian left who has the backbone to do what Carrie Prejean did.
Before this incident, I was a typical liberal, non-religious Canadian with no particular opinion on Gay Marriage but this has really opened my eyes.
Gays don’t care about the word marriage…. ask one if they would be just as happy if the word were to disappear … the most famous gay person on the planet, Elton John, stated that he doesn’t care to be married as long has he has the same legal benefits as everyone else.
The problem is that gays are offended that the word marriage implies more than just a hedonistic sexual union. There is an altruistic component to the word marriage that implies a union based on the self-sacrifice of bearing and raising children to perpetuate the species.
So gays would rather redefine a term that has had a very specific definition for centuries. The really maddening thing about this is that civilization as we know it today is a mere blip in the history of mankind yet these narcissistic people feel it’s their right to change things.
They talk about equality but what they are asking is to reduce the meaning of marriage to their level. We don’t want it but it looks bad for us if you have it.
They could have all the legal rights some other way.
This is how it goes once you water things down.
Associated Press Story, February 22, 2009
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Canada’s decision to legalize gay marriage has paved the way for polygamy to be legal as well, a defense lawyer said Wednesday as the two leaders of rival polygamous communities made their first court appearance.
The case is the first to test Canada’s polygamy laws.
Pedophiles can’t be far behind.
DC: Your truth & love current has all the grace of a moving van. I’m not sure why anyone would want to share a pew (chair) with you for fear of saying, doing or being the wrong thing… which btw just kills the fellowship &/or sign of peace thingy…
“oh and by the way, Jesus never once ever ever ever talks about gays. I don’t know where you are getting your lies but at least get it right.”
Jesus did mentioned in the gospels that marriage is between man and woman based on God’s creation, where the man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his woman and they will become one flesh. By your logic that Prejean is a bigot, that makes Jesus a bigot according to you. At least get it right if you are going to appeal to Jesus, or at least pretend as is the case here to appeal to our God and Saviour.
And lack of mention of something from Jesus does not mean Jesus condone that. Jesus also never mentioned rape, incest, kidnapping, etc., which are all heinous sins in God’s eyes according to the OT.
I tell you why it is not mentioned in the gospels- there is no disagreement among anybody that those are gross sins. Jesus either responded to questions about God’s law or showed disciples that it is not just the actions that are sins, but the thoughts behind them that are sins. He did not negate all of God’s law, though His cross did abrogate part of God’s law. Paul did state what part of the law is binding on the Christian. Sorry God’s law against homosexuality is still binding in regards to that being sin.
