Iraq: The most dangerous place in the world for Christians

March 27th, 2009 | 1 Comment

Canon Andrew White, vicar of St. George’s, Baghdad, the only Anglican church in Iraq, says Iraqi Christians are still being killed and forced into exile. He does not condemn the invasion of Iraq and is glad Saddam was deposed, but the situation today is disastrous for non-Muslims. I look around our church and most of [...]

Christ Church, Windsor, goes online

March 15th, 2009 | 1 Comment

The web project I mentioned a few days ago has come to fruition. The Parish of Christ Church, Windsor, Nova Scotia, has gone online with a very spiffy website (if I say so myself). Actually, it’s a WordPress blog masquerading as a website, but whatever. Several sermons by our rector, The Rev. David Curry, and [...]

March 1st, 2009 | 2 Comments

The Rev David Curry, Rector of Christ Church, Windsor, preached this sermon for the First Sunday in Lent. Unusually for Fr Curry, it was not based on either of this morning’s Scripture readings but on Hebrews 5:8, “Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered”. This is nonetheless a most fitting [...]

January 14th, 2009 | 2 Comments

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu believes that Britain’s social cohesion and sense of common purpose have disappeared in recent decades.   The nation, he argues, has lost the “big vision” that was evident in welfare-state social programmes of the 1940s. That big vision was mainly the product of William Temple, Richard Tawney, and William Beveridge, [...]

Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu’s Christmas message is printed this year in, of all places, The Sun. School Nativity plays can speak to all of us. Like the star that led the wise men to the stable, the re-enactment of the Nativity story guides us to an understanding of the true meaning of Christmas. [...]

A Church of England bishop has sharply criticised the United States and Great Britain over brutal persecution of Christians in Iraq. The Rt Rev Graham James says the two countries’ invasion of Iraq has contributed to the obliteration of one of the world’s oldest Christian communities. Despite having very strong Christian traditions, the US and [...]
